According to the police, the victims included members of the groups involved in the dispute as well as bystanders. A total of four men and two women aged between 14 and 71 were taken to hospital with injuries. A 34-year-old died there. No further details about the course of events were initially known. The investigation is ongoing, the police said. A search was still underway for at least one suspect.
Gun violence is a regular occurrence in the USA. These are easily available there and are in circulation on a massive scale. In New York, however, such acts on public transportation are unusual, reported the "New York Times", citing police sources.
Out of a total of 974 cases in 2023, only six occurred in the subway.
