Heartbreaking TikTok trend: Hidden money in baby items for parents in need!
USA - A touching trend is currently taking over the social mediaplatform TikTok: Following the success of a video showing a handbag in the baby section of a supermarket, users began hiding money and gift cards in baby products - a small gesture to support parents in difficult situations.
While shopping, TikToker DeNaesha Gonzalez discovered a silver handbag left behind in the baby section, still with a price tag on it.
The 28-year-old interpreted the forgotten bag as the result of a difficult decision: a mother who had to choose between buying the bag or urgently needed baby food. She wrote movingly:"She deserves the bag."
The video with the quote quickly went viral, reaching 23.9 million views and inspiring a new trend after many users shared their own experiences in the comments about how they often had to sacrifice personal wishes in order to provide for their children.
Soon after, people began hiding banknotes and gift cards in diaper boxes, baby food cans and other family products in the hope that needy parents could find these small gifts and treat themselves.
The trend does not only have positive aspects
The trend quickly went viral under the hashtag #shedeservesthepurse, and hundreds of users posted videos of themselves taking part in the action.
Gonzalez told NBC News, "There were just times when I didn't have anything, or times when I had to put certain things away so my son could have something, and I think it was just a moment where I thought, Oh my God, this looks so familiar."
But as nice as the trend is, it also has negative sides: Reports of destroyed diaper boxes and ripped open baby food cans in supermarkets are piling up. Some people specifically look for the hidden money and take advantage of the good nature of the campaign. This not only results in losses for the stores, but also means that functioning products are willfully damaged and can no longer be sold.
The trend shows how a small gesture can make a big difference, but unfortunately there are also those who abuse the helpfulness of others for their own purposes.
