Ex-second division pro shot in the leg! Surgery after bloodbath

According to media reports, the attack took place late on Thursday evening (local time) in the north of the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul.

According to the reports, the German-born man was attacked by two masked assailants on a motorcycle as he left a TV studio in the Beykoz district.

A bullet pierced the foot of the 16-time Turkish international. A picture he posted himself on social media shows the bullet wound. "They shot me in the foot, the last word is Fenerbahce," it also says in the Instagram story.

Due to the severity of the injury, Akın will have to undergo surgery soon, his former teammate Tuncay Şanlı (42) revealed, according to the news outlet gdh digital. "He's not in a serious condition, but he's in a bad mood," said the 42-year-old.

So far, it is still completely unclear who could be behind the crime - as well as the motive of the wanted person.

"We have learned with regret that former international Serhat Akın was injured in the foot in an armed attack," said the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) in an official statement. It condemned "the heinous attack in the strongest terms" and wished the former attacker a speedy recovery.

Akın was under contract with second division club Karlsruher SCbetween 2009 and 2011 and was loaned to FC Köln by Belgian first division side RSC Anderlecht in 2007. However, he played the most competitive matches in Turkey: he played 125 competitive matches for top club Fenerbahçe Istanbul and was part of the blue and yellows from 2000 to 2005.
