800 residents are rebuilding after Hurricane Helene!
USA - After the devastating destruction caused by Hurricane Helene, the 800 residents of a small town came together to start rebuilding.
"The community has come together in a way I've never seen before," Joel Friedman (64) toldPeople.
He watched as the hurricane devastated the US city of Marshall. But instead of waiting for the government-supported reconstruction efforts, the residents wasted no time and pitched in themselves.
Friedman reported that neighbors rushed to his café and helped remove all the mud from the business and clear away the debris in front of it.
"I didn't ask anyone. They just showed up, whether they were employees of mine, friends or maybe even people who didn't know who I was," said the 64-year-old.
The residents want to help the stores
He added that this was not just the case for him, but for all stores in the city. People wanted to give something back to the stores.
Another resident also talked about the help she had received from people.
She set up a GoFundMe campaign to collect donations to rebuild her bar. Over 14,000 dollars (approx. 12,700 euros) have now been raised.
She went on to say that a neighbor came with his tractor and spent at least three hours removing mud and dirt from the bar.
