Sammi Mai (42) told the TV station"GB News" about the curious incident that took place in a branch of the British supermarket chain Waitrose.

Mai was on vacation in the town and one evening went into the bargain section of the store and bent down. Then it happened.

"Suddenly a really big and heavy object fell on my head and hit me in the head. I fell and when I woke up, I had a concussion [...]", said the 42-year-old. The shelf was about 1.80 meters taller than she was.

Waitrose responded to the incident and offered her a voucher for the equivalent of around 30 euros for goods and a cab voucher. She felt this was an insult and is now demanding "fair compensation".

"They sent me the email after I complained to customer service after a month and told me they had no legal responsibility for my injury," Mai said. "I'm suffering from pain, I'm suffering from anxiety, I've been to the emergency room twice. It's just ruining my life."

A Waitrose spokesperson had told the broadcaster that a first aider had examined the customer and that they were sorry the 42-year-old was unwell. However, they "will consider any new information she wishes to share with us", it said.
