After a heroic career: police dog "Apache" goes into retirement
Indiana (United States) - A hero is retiring! The Indiana State Police thank a very special four-legged friend with an affectionate video.
"Thank you K9 Apache for your service and love for the work you did to protect and serve," reads a farewell video posted on Facebook by the Indiana State Police.
For years, the German Shepherd "K9 Apache" had helped to apprehend drugs, weapons and criminals.
But now his time has come to take his well-deserved retirement. In a fun ceremony with his "favorite people", Apache retired from service last Monday, the State Police wrote about the video.
The four-legged friend will enjoy his retirement as a family dog with his lifelong partner Trooper Walter Butt. The close bond between the two is particularly evident in the video.
Apache served heroically during his career
In the caption, the State Police emphasize Apache's dedicated commitment and report on a life-threatening mission of the sheepdog.
In 2017, Apache threw himself in front of his handler during a shootout and caught a bullet in his neck. Just three weeks later, the four-legged friend had already recovered and was back on duty.
Over the course of his career, Apache helped seize numerous illegal narcotics, 167 weapons and 1.6 million dollars (around 1.4 million euros) in drug money, and was also involved in the arrests of 77 criminals.
With this achievement, he has truly earned his retirement!
