Parents "weren't paying attention": One-month-old baby mauled by family dog
Torrance (US state of California) - Dog and baby in the same household - that should be carefully considered, as a horrific case from the USA now makes clear in all its cruelty: In the city of Torrance, not far from Los Angeles, a baby just a few weeks old was so badly injured by its parents' dog this week that it died.
According to the Torrance Police Department, the police department received an emergency call last Tuesday afternoon.
"When the Torrance Fire Department arrived, they found that a one-month-old child had been bitten by a dog," the department described the situation. The baby was immediately taken to a hospital.
Unfortunately, it could not be saved ...
Detectives then investigated the scene of the horrific incident. "The City of Torrance Animal Control Department also arrived on the scene and took custody of the dog," the police said.
Faye Tohiti, a friend of the family, told NBC 4 that she "can't even imagine how the mother is feeling right now". She added: "She must be devastated."
Family friend is critical: "Was wrong from the start"
She was a little more critical towards ABC 7: The parents of the deceased baby were good people, but "they didn't pay attention to what they should have paid attention to, and that's really a tragedy," Tohidi said.
"I'm a dog person myself and I have a dog at home, but you shouldn't bring your toddler into an environment where there are so many big dogs running around. And that was wrong from the start."
So far, the breed of the dog that bit the baby has not been made public. According to the Torrance Police Department, the exact cause of death is also still undetermined and "pending an investigation by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office."
