As the AFP news agency learned from a trial transcript, the striker for Turkish first division club Alanyaspor pleaded guilty to illegally filming himself having sexual intercourse with women on several occasions.

At the beginning of the trial, Hwang protested his innocence.

"I sincerely apologize to the victims who have suffered because of my offenses. I sincerely ask for the greatest possible leniency," the player said in court.

The case became public in June 2023 when Hwang's sister-in-law published sensitive videos of him in an attempt to blackmail him.

She is currently serving a three-year prison sentence for blackmail.

The prosecution demanded a four-year prison sentence for Hwang at the Central District Court in South Korea's capital Seoul. "Although he now admits the misconduct, he had denied the allegations in the run-up to the trial," said the prosecutors.

The 62-time international, who was under contract with English Premier League club Nottingham Forest until the summer, has been suspended from the national team since November 2023. The verdict is due to be handed down on December 18.
