Loreiny Penalo actually just wanted to order food on a Friday evening. In the end, she will never forget that day.

Because, as People reported, her delivery man was none other than her old science teacher!

She didn't recognize him at first. "He looked familiar, but I had never seen him without the eye patch he used to wear," Penalo recalled.

But when he introduced himself by his name - Wilmer Melendez (69) - it clicked and memories of her school days came flooding back.

The two quickly struck up a conversation, with the 69-year-old telling her that the retired teacher only delivered food to finance his son's engineering studies.

Although Melendez had worked for more than 38 years, the time he spent teaching abroad was not taken into account - his pension was correspondingly low. He also said that he had difficulties due to a chronic autoimmune disease with muscle weakness.

"Seeing him working during his retirement broke my heart. I wanted to hug him immediately," said Penalo.

Without further ado, she posted a video on TikTok in which she talked about him. Her followers quickly urged her to set up a GoFundMe campaign for the pensioner. There she promptly raised around 37,900 euros for Melendez!

"She was so nervous to tell me about it, but I didn't really understand what GoFundMe was and what was going on. It wasn't until she showed me the site and explained it to me a few times that I understood. I was so shocked, confused, happy and thankful to God," says the former teacher.

Even though the 69-year-old will continue to deliver food, he emphasized that the money from the fundraiser had helped him a lot and that he is very grateful to Loreiny Penalo.
