Because her son got a severe punishment: Mother sues coach!
Heath (Texas/USA) - This action has legal repercussions! In Texas, USA, players have been given a severe sports penalty by their football coach. This is not without consequences.
As theNew York Post reports, the mother of a pupil has sued the former coach of Rockwall Heath High School, John Harrell, and his twelve assistant coaches.
The case concerns an incident on January 6, 2023, when Harrell allegedly ordered his team to do a total of 400 push-ups per person within an hour - without a break and without the opportunity to drink water.
Allegedly, the accused wanted to achieve more discipline. But the opposite was the case: at least 26 players complained of discomfort afterwards. Examinations diagnosed "rhabdomyolysis" - the breakdown of muscle fibers.
After the allegations came to light, Harrell was suspended by the school's management in January 2023 and resigned as coach two months later.
In the current lawsuit, the mother's lawyer explained that her son could have suffered "kidney failure" without treatment. "This is a potentially long-term, life-threatening injury and not something you can just walk away from," the lawyer told a local TV station.
