According to media reports, the terrible accident occurred on December 19. The teenager is said to have been so badly injured that he died of his injuries before Christmas on December 21.

The exact circumstances of the accident, in which the 16-year-old is said to have fallen out of the moving vehicle, are still unclear, wrote several US media outlets, citing the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.

Doctors at a hospital in Birmingham fought for the teenager's life for two days, but to no avail. Vestavia Hills police will thoroughly investigate the case, according to 6WBRC News.

Both the young actor's Instagram page and his mother's Facebook page confirmed the boy's death. "We are heartbroken to announce that Hudson Meek went home to Jesus tonight," reads a post by Lani Meek.

Actor Hudson Meek dies in accident before career could really take off

Hudson Meek's acting career had not even really begun when he died in such a tragic way. He achieved greater fame with a supporting role as the younger version of the main character Miles "Baby" (played by Ansel Elgort, 30) in the movie "Baby Driver".

"Hudson was like a match that lit a fire wherever he went - in class, in the audition room, on set ... wherever he was. He was by far one of the most talented actors I've ever worked with," said his acting academy teacher.

A memorial service will be held on December 28 to celebrate Hudson himself and all that he accomplished in his short life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to provide scholarships for other students.
