With heart and warmth: firefighters save deer by cuddling them!
Lørenskog (Norway) - Two firefighters experienced an extraordinary and moving rescue operation when they were called out on an unusual mission: A deer had gotten into a predicament on a frozen lake.
As the Norwegian news magazine Dagbladet reports, the two rescuers found the deer already in the water.
It had apparently broken through the thin ice and had been in the cold water for between 15 and 20 minutes.
The two firefighters quickly carried the frozen animal to the shore, where it was so exhausted and unable to move that it immediately lay down.
But then the rescuers had a brilliant idea: they lay down with the deer under sheets and blankets to help it regain its body heat.
The rescue operation took more than an hour and a half
Eventually, the deer's condition improved and it regained its strength so that it could finally be released into the wild. But what happened next was something very special.
The deer initially jumped 40 meters out into the field, but then stopped abruptly, turned around and looked the two firefighters straight in the eye before disappearing into the forest.
For the rescuers, it felt as if the animal wanted to thank them for their help.
